schedules and distances prohibit many people from sitting for
an artist as was customary before the invention of photography.
However, Suzanne still prefers to work entirely from life sittings,
perhaps utilizing photographs for finishing details after the
sitting. For younger children or pet portraits, working from photographs
simply becomes a necessity.
It is one of
Suzannes goals to make this experience enjoyable and exciting.
Commissioning a portrait provides a rare opportunity for clients
to be involved in the creation of a unique work of art to be cherished
forever.
Prior to
the initial sitting and photoshoot, the desired size, potential
background elements and price will be discussed. A deposit is
required prior to any travel by the artist, or at the initial
sitting if local. (If photographs are being supplied to the artist,
the deposit should be submitted with the photographs.) A study
from life will be produced at the initial sitting. After returning
to the studio, compositional sketches may be produced for client
approval prior to the start of the actual painting. Without sacrificing
artistic control, mutually agreeable, minor adjustments may be
made at that time to suit the client. Ideally, the artist will
have the opportunity to work from life sittings at various stages
throughout the production of the painting.

When the painting
is complete, and approved, shipping plans will be discussed and
payment for the balance and shipping will be due prior to actual
shipping (or upon delivery, if local). The artist may assist in
selecting suitable final framing to be purchased separately by
the client. Instructions for care and proper lighting of the painting
will be included with the final delivery. Only
the finest materials and time-tested processes are utilized to
ensure permanence.
Overall time
to create a commissioned portrait varies from a few weeks to more
than a year depending on the subject and schedule of the artist.
Requests for special deadlines will be honored if at all possible.
